Central Govt Releases Rs 251 Crores for Flood-Hit Assam

Guwahati, July 16, 2019:

Finally some good news for those affected by this wave of floods in Assam! The Central Government has approved a sum of rupees for relief of those suffering due to floods in the State.

The Chief Controller of Accounts, Department of Expenditure has been directed by the Ministry of finance to release Rupees two hundred and fifty one crores and fifty five lakhs as grants-in-aid towards central share of SDRF for 2019-20 on the recommendation of the 14th Finance Commission.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Nagpur, has been directed to hand over the funds to the Assam Government.

It may be mentioned that Assam has been reeling under floods for a long time and 43 lakh people have been affected by the floods this year. Moreover, 15 lives have been lost due to the floods. Animals have also been affected as 90% of the Kaziranga National Park has been submerged under water. As peer latest reports, four rhinos have reportedly died due to floods.
