It is to be mentioned that Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on June reviewed the outbreak of the deadly disease Japanese encephalitis. Initiatives are being taken to monitor the situation and ensure the availability of drugs and medicines for treatment, the CM mentioned.

Meanwhile, Responding to rumours doing the rounds regarding Japanese Encephalitis, State Epidemiologist Dr. L Jampa said that no Japanese Encephalitis (JE) cases have been reported from anywhere in frontier state Arunachal Pradesh.

Japanese encephalitis is vector-borne encephalitis transmitted by the Culex group of mosquitoes. These mosquitoes breed mainly in rice fields and large water bodies rich in aquatic vegetation.

Migratory birds along with pigs in the community play an important role in the transmission of JE from one area to another.
