Guwahati, November 29, 2019:

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi on Friday raised his voice against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, and said that the Centre should hold consultations with the protesting organizations.

Gogoi alleged that the Central Government has been applying different tactics. Referring to Amit Shah calling Northeastern political parties for consultations on the Bill, Gogoi said, "The central government, in order to divide the people and suppress the protests, has invited some for a discussion and neglected the others. They are trying to mislead the people of Assam. They are trying to divide the people of Assam."

Gogoi appealed to the indigenous organisations of Assam not to fall for such a "conspiracy". I also request all the political parties to refrain from breaking the unity of the Assamese people. "I urge the leaders not to agree to the terms put forward by the Central government. They should not ever support the CAB", he said.

It may be mentioned here that the NESO — consisting of the All Assam Students’ Union, All Arunachal Students’ Union, All Manipur Students’ Union, Naga Students’ Federation, Khasi Students’ Union, Garo Students’ Union, Mizo Zirlai Pawl, and Twipra Students’ Federation — has been opposing the Bill tooth-and-nail, and on November 22, staged protests across all Northeastern states.
