Punjab Congress MLAs have authorised party president Sonia Gandhi to appoint a new legislature party leader to succeed Amarinder Singh as the state’s chief minister.

This came after Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh resigned, saying he was “humiliated” by the way the party handled the infighting in the state unit. According to party sources, the new leader’s name will most likely be announced at 11 a.m. CLP meeting today.

Channi will meet Governor Banwarilal Purohit to stake a claim at 6:30 pm.
