CM Sonowal reviews COVID situation in Assam with health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, deputy commissioners

GUWAHATI: In view of the surge in COVID-19 cases in the state, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal today discussed the situation with health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over phone.

The chief minister also held a video conference with the deputy commissioners and reviewed various aspects of the COVID-19 situation in the districts.

Sonowal also directed the deputy commissioners to take approximate measures to control the prices of essential items and medicines.

He also asked the deputy commissioners to regularly visit the hospitals to review the COVID situation and check availability of medicines supplied by the government.

CM Sonowal also stressed on generating more awareness on COVID-19 among people.

He also asked to keep the public informed about the current situation in all the districts on an regular basis in order to sensitise them about the gravity of the situation.

The chief minister also asked the deputy commissioners to take joint measures in consultation with tea garden management to control spread of COVID-19 in the garden areas.

Meanwhile, Assam recorded 46 more deaths due to COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, taking the death toll in the state to 1,531, while 4,936 fresh positive cases took the tally to 2,77,687.

The state currently has 31,829 active COVID-19 cases.
