GUWAHATI: Because the election period has ended, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's response to flood-ravaged Assam has been slow. If there had been an election, PM Modi would have flown to the state to inquire about the state's flood situation, announcing crores of rupees as assistance, said All India Congress Committee (AICC) today.

The AICC general secretary and former Union Minister Mukul Wasnik held a press meet at Guwahati today.

Speaking about the state of Assam, Minister Wasnik said that many districts of the state were submerged in floodwater and more than lakh people were affected, therefore, the party put forward a proposal to its core committee expressing sympathy for the affected people.

It has also expressed displeasure that neither the state nor the central governments are taking action on this.

Wasnik went to say, "If there had been an election PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah would have personally flown to the state and announced  crores of rupees as a relief as the election phase has end they did not do so."

After AICC's action, PM Modi then yesterday took a stock of the flood situation in parts of Assam calling State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and assured all possible assistance to mitigate the flood situation in the state.

Both PM Modi and Assam CM tweeted about the development.
