Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi Gets Bail in Defamation Case over Remark on Amit Shah

New Delhi, October 11, 2019:

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has pleaded 'not guilty' in a defamation case filed against him for calling Union Home Minister Amit Shah 'murder accused'.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Corporator Krishnavadan Brahmbha had filed the defamation suit against Gandhi over the 'murder accused' remark. However, reportedly, in today's hearing, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate R B Etaliya granted him bail on a bond of Rs. 10,000.

It may be mentioned here that Gandhi, during a campaign rally, called Amit Shah a 'murder accused'. He was quoted saying, " Murder accused BJP chief Amit Shah. Wah, kya shaan hai (how glorious)." Following this comment, Krishnavadan Brahmbha had filed a case as slander as Amit Shah had already been acquitted in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case in 2015.

The Congress leader travelled to Ahmedabad today had two hearings. He was facing another defamation case for accusing the Ahmedabad District Cooperative (ADC) Bank's involvement in a currency swapping scam after demonetisation in 2016, where Amit Shah was one of the directors. The Court has scheduled Gandhi's next hearing for the plea on December 7.
