GUWAHATI: Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi reached Guwahati on Wednesday morning to pay the final tribute to the former 3-time Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who last breathed on Monday.

Rahul Gandhi reached the airport at 9:40 A.M and is on his way to the Shrimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra last tribute to the mortal remains of the former chief minister.

He was welcomed at Borjhar airport by APCC President Ripun Bora, party leader Rockybul Hussain, Pradyut Bordoloi, Devabrat Saikia and other members of APCC. Security has been strengthened at the Shrimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra ahead of the visit of the Congress Leader.

According to reports, After paying tribute Gandhi will head towards Gogoi’s Dispur residence  console the bereaved family. Gandhi will stay for two hours and will return to Delhi the very same day.

Apart from Gandhi, a host of other national Indian National Congress leaders are also set to arrive.

The last rites of 3 tune former CM Tarun Gogoi will be held at the Navagraha Crematorium in Guwahati, sources said.

3-time former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi’s mortal remains reached the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati’s Panjabari area on Tuesday, where thousands upon thousands of admirers reached to pay their last tributes to the popular leader.

It needs mention here that the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday declared state mourning for 3 days from today (November 24) onwards. Gogoi’s last rites will be performed on November 26.

It was further informed that during this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast where it is regularly flown.  The third tallest flag in the country, which is in Guwahati’s Gandhi Mandap, is seen flying half-mast.
