Congress Releases List of Contestants for Bye-Polls in Assam, BJP's Tentative List with Inside Northeast

Guwahati, September 28, 2019:

Congress Party president Sonia Gandhi has approved the proposal of four candidates for the ensuing bye-polls in four Assembly constituencies in Assam.

The four candidates are Keshab Prasad Rajak from Ratanbari SC constituency, Shamsul Hoque from Jania constituency, Kartik Kurmi from Rangapara constituency and Sushil Suri from Sonari constituency.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) tentative list of candidates for the four constituencies -- Sonari, Jonia, Ratabari and Rangapara -- for the ensuing bye-polls, has also been revealed.

As per the tentative list, the saffron party will likely field candidate Nabanita Handique from Sonari, Majibur Rahman Khan from Jonia, Bijoy Malakar from Ratabari, and Rajen Borthakur from Rangapara.

It may be mentioned that All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has also announced its candidate on Saturday. AIUDF will field MLA Rafiqul Islam from Jania constituency. the party will contest from only one constituency out of the four constituencies. This was informed by the party general seccretary Aminul Islam.
