BISWANATH: BJP heavyweight Himanta Biswa Sarma today said the Congress has spoiled the election atmosphere this time by carrying Badruddin Ajmal piggyback to make it a battle between “Bharatiya Sanatanis and Ajmal”.

“Had it been an election debating upon the development ushered in over the past five years, it would have been a healthy atmosphere. The Congress has completely spoiled the atmosphere by carrying Badruddin Ajmal piggyback,” Sarma said, addressing an election meeting at Bishwanath Chariali campaigning for BJP candidate Pramod Borthakur today.

Stating that every vote cast in favour of the Congress will bring Ajmal closer to Dispur castle, the Assam minister also said, “It will be our surrender on the part of indigenous people of Assam to cast votes in favour of Ajmal.”

Criticising the Congress-All India United Democratic Alliance (AIUDF) alliance for the state elections, the North East Democratic Alliance convenor said: “I have worked for the Congress for 22 long years. It has everything. It’s a 100-year-old party that was served by the likes of Mahatma Gandhi, Gopinath Bardoloi, Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan and even Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla. Should it stoop to this low of carrying piggyback Badruddin Ajmal? Didn’t get any other party to ally with?”

“Therefore, it’s no more election of candidates. It has become a battle between Bharatiya Sanatanis and Ajmal … We will have to teach the Congress a lesson that people didn’t like its decision to carry piggyback Ajmal. We’ll have to keep Ajmal away from Dispur,” the BJP strongman added.
