Guwahati, March 27, 2019:

Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma, who has been on a whirlwind tour to campaign for his NPP party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections as the party prepares to contest elections in all seven Northeastern states, took a few moments to address the media where he addressed several issues.

Responding to the opposition Congress’ allegation that NPP is only fielding candidates to help the BJP, he said: “Anybody can say anything after making an assessment. We want to expand the party and want NPP to become the voice of the Northeast. And thus, we have fielded candidates wherever possible. In fact, we have fielded candidates in all states in the Northeast. Congress is making these allegations because they have nothing else to say which is why they repeat these points ad nauseum.”

Sangma also admitted that although completion would be tough, the NPP party is confident that its candidate Agatha Sangma would win the Tura Lok Sabha Constituency. In regards to NPP’s participation in Assam elections, the Meghalaya CM said that the party expects to announce a couple of more candidates in the coming days.

It may be mentioned that many senior Congress leaders, including former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi have accused NPP party of fielding candidates in key Constituencies to split the Congress vote and make it easier for the BJP to win.
