Coronavirus: Assam to Take "Stern" Measures to Isolate and Treat Nizamuddin Worshippers

Kokrajhar, March 31, 2020:

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed all DC and SPs of the state to take stern measures for searching and extending medical check up those persons who participated in the Nizamuddin religious event in Delhi recently, despite the lockdown in place to slow down the spread of the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the Assam CM has appealed all sections of citizens to maintain social distancing during the lockdown period across the country and claimed that till today, no positive case of coronavirus has been reported across the state. Chief Minister Sonowal arrived in Kokrajhar in a chartered Helicopter landed at SAI centre Kokrajhar today.He visited at RNB civil hospital in Kokrajhar today to review the health department's preparedness on COVID-19.

He held a meeting with district administration,senior officers in the line departments to make prevention on coronavirus at Circuit House. After the meeting while addressing the press conference at Circuit House, he said that citizens must maintain social distancing and follow medical directions during the lockdown period which was declared by the PM. He said that citizens of the state must be made aware to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

He has asked all DC, SPs of the state to take strict initiatives to identify the participants of Nizamuddin religious programme and offered medical check up for them. Sonowal said that he has been visiting in districts to take stock about preparedness of health department for fighting the COVID-19 across the state. Earlier today, Assam Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has been busy preparing facilities to tackle COVID-19, took to Twitter to alert Assam to the situation at hand. The Minister later took to Twitter to inform that the authorities have zeroed in on 299 people who were present in and around the hotspot.

The religious congregation at the Hazrat Nizamuddin, where over 2,000 people congregated at a mosque amid the worldwide COVID-19 phenomenon, is being seen as a ticking time bomb by the nation at large. At least six have died in the South Indian State of Telangana, while 1 preacher died of a corona infection in J&K. Now, with the entire nation’s eyes trained to the goings-on in the aftermath of the mass gathering, it has now come to light that the NE Indian region might have a closer connection to this congregation that was intially anticipated.

Meanwhile, Assam Social Welfare minister and in-charge of Kokrajhar district for COVID-19, Pramila Rani Brahma demanded strict quarantine facilities in the district.

She expressed unhappy and resented for not availing proper masks,sanitizing materials till today in Kokrajhar to fight against the spread COVID-19.

She has emphasized to bring strict measures on Coronavirus outbreak for which why state government and health department is working dedicated. She has urged all sections of citizens to be alert and take necessary self maintaining to make free from COVID outbreak. She has also expressed concern over the Nizamuddin outbreak.
