Coronavirus Cases Surpass 7,00,000 Globally, USA & Italy Record Highest Positive Cases

New Delhi, March 30, 2020:

The Novel coronavirus has spread to as many as 199 countries worldwide and the numbers are increasing at a rapid rate. The current coronavirus cases globally stands at 739,385.

According to Worldometers data, the death toll as on Monday is 35,018. So far, 156,588 people have been able to recover from the COVID-19 illness. 28,471 people are said to be critical.

With such staggering numbers, nations across the world have gone into a lockdown mode in order to combat coronavirus.

The highest cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the USA currently. USA and Italy have occupied the top spots with the highest number of infected persons — 142,793 and 97,689 respectively. Spain has the third highest cases of the virus -- 85,195. China, the place of the virus' origin currently has 81,470 cases of coronavirus.

The USA came to the fore recently due to a significant spike in coronavirus cases with the highest number of cases. 333 new cases and 6 new deaths have been reported in the USA in the last 24 hours. 2,490 fatalities were recorded till the filing of this report.

According to Worldometer, a website which compiles new cases of coronavirus, New York tops the list with 59,648 confirmed cases. As many as 965 people in New York have died.

In India the total number of cases has now risen to 1,071, with 29 deaths being recorded as per the latest data from the Health Ministry and State Governments.

47 new cases were recorded in the past 24 hours. 100 people have recovered from this illness so far. The coronavirus now has spread across the length and breadth of the country. From the first case detected in Kerala in the month of January, it has expanded its footprint in the country.

India is under lockdown for nearly a week now and the Government has quashed the rumours of extending the 21-day lockdown period. Gujarat, Punjab and West Bengal have reported fresh deaths.

New 24/7 national helpline numbers have been opened - 1075, 1800-112-545 and 011-23978046. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a WhatsApp helpdesk number - 9013151515.

It may be mentioned here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday opened an account in a bid to receive donations to fight the disease. Announcing the creation of the account through a tweet, Modi invited all and sundry to donate money so that the Government can continue its fight against the coronavirus.

A tweet sent out from the PM’s official account read “The PM-CARES Fund accepts micro-donations too. It will strengthen disaster management capacities and encourage research on protecting citizens. Let us leave no stone unturned to make India healthier and more prosperous for our future generations.” Modi has also stated that this Fund will also cater to similar distressing situations, if they occur in the times ahead.

Tata Trusts have also announced a donation of Rs 500 crores to fight the virus. It has pledged a sum of Rs 500 crores to aid in India’s fight. “The current situation in India and across the world is of grave concern and needs immediate action. The Tata Trusts and the Tata group companies have in the last risen to the needs of the nation. At this moment, the need of the hour is greater than any other time”, the group wrote in a statement that was undersigned by Chairman Ratan Tata himself.
