Coronavirus Death Toll Surpasses 800 in China, Over 37,000 Infected

New Delhi, February 9, 2020:

According to latest reports, the death toll due to Coronavirus has surpassed 800 in China and more than 37,000 people have now contracted the deadly disease.

The death toll has crossed that of the 2002-2003’s death toll following Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. Coronavirus, which is believed to have emerged in 2019 at the Wuhan province in China, has now spread to more than 25 countries so far.

The doctor, Li Wenliang, who had earlier sent out warnings about the possible outbreak of Coronavirus died in Wuhan Hospital. According to hospital authorities, he had contracted the disease while treating others.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the deadly disease as global health emergency. Coronavirus has led to the lockdown of cities, shutting of businesses temporarily and evacuation of nationals of other countries from China.

The governments of countries worldwide have taken precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak of the disease. Isolation wards have also been kept at standby to treat patients who test positive.
