New Delhi, March 8, 2020:

Indian telecom companies are doing their bit to spread awareness on the feared Coronavirus (COVID-19) by playing a recorded message on preventive measures that can be taken to keep the disease away.

Apart from the recorded message on the illness, updates on the current situation of Coronavirus will be provided on making calls to Jio numbers.

Airtel's message starts with a coughing sound and is followed by, “You can stop novel coronavirus from spreading. Protect your face with a handkerchief while coughing or sneezing. Clean hands with soap continuously. Do not touch the face, eyes or nose. If someone has a cough, fever or breathlessness maintain 1-meter distance. If needed, visit the nearest health centre immediately,” in both Hindi and English.

Helpline numbers have also been provided in case the customers require any assistance.

A caller tune has been added to all Jio and BSNL numbers, which do not have a caller tune already active. For the people who already have a caller tune, nothing will change. To remove the Coronavirus message, one can simply activate a caller tune on their number.

The telecom companies of India, along with the Ministry of Health and other departments, have taken the necessary action to help convey the message on Coronavirus.

The virus that originated in China has spread to different places and is now plaguing the world. It has spread to over 90 countries across the globe. In India 34 people have been infected. The Health Ministry has set up 52 laboratories for sample testing.
