Guwahati, March 18, 2020:

The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) is taking every possible precautionary measure to keep the novel coronavirus away from Assam. In its latest effort, the airport authorities have sent a passenger travelling from Mumbai to Guwahati to the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) on being detected with high fever.

Following the outbreak of coronavirus in India, the Assam Government has directed all the departments to keep a check to ensure that the virus does not make it to the Northeast region. The LGBI authorities sent the passenger traveling with SpiceJet flight directly to GMCH for primary test on showing one of the symptoms of the global disease that is contagious.

Speaking with Inside Northeast, a source at the LGBI said, "Yes, yesterday a passenger did show high fever. We have sent him to GMCH for further tests. The report is awaited."

The passenger has been identified as Nazrul Islam, who was travelling from Mumbai. Maharashtra has emerged as the worst-affected State in India with over 40 people. A resident of Mumbai succumbed to the virus on Tuesday, thereby taking the death toll in India to three.

It may be mentioned here that the fear of novel coronavirus has spread like wildfire across Assam, due to which the Government is taking every precautionary measure to ensure the coronavirus does not break out in the state.
