Coronavirus Update: India Tally Climbs to 24,506 & 775 Deaths Reported; Over 5,000 Patients Cured

New Delhi, April 25, 2020:

The total number of coronavirus cases in India has now climbed to 24,506. 57 people have died from the virus in last 24 hours, taking the death toll in the country to 775. In a positive development, 5,000 people, 21% of all the positive cases, have recovered from the disease, according to the ministry of health and welfare.

Maharashtra continues to report highest number of deaths at 301 followed by Gujarat (127), Madhya Pradesh (92) and Delhi (53).

MHA Order on Opening of Shops:

Ministry of Home Affairs issued an Order No. 40-3/2020-DM-I(A) Dated 24th April, 2020 on amendments in the consolidated revised guidelines on lock down measures to allow opening of shops.

As per the order, in rural areas, all shops, except those in shopping malls are allowed to open. In urban areas, all standalone shops, neighbourhood shops and shops in residential complexes are allowed to open. Shops in markets/market complexes and shopping malls are not allowed to open. It has further been clarified that sale by E-commerce companies will continue to be permitted for essential goods only. Sale of liquor and other items continues to be prohibited as specified in the National Directives for COVID-19 management.

However, the MHA order stated that these shops will not be permitted to open in areas, whether rural or urban, which are declared as containment zones by respective States/ UTs.

International Figures:

Internationally, 2,832,520 cases of the coronavirus have been registered. While 807,040 people have recovered, 197,343 people have succumbed to death. 1,828,137 coronavirus cases are active, and 58,524 (3%) are in serious condition.

The United States remains the worst hit country with the most number of cases (925,758) and deaths (52,217).
