Coronavirus: World’s Biggest Car Production Facility in South Korea Shut Down

New Delhi, February 7, 2020:

Coronavirus has led to the suspension of operations of the world’s biggest automaker Hyundai in the Ulsan complex in South Korea on Friday.

The Ulsan complex, which has the capacity of producing 1.4 million vehicles for Hyundai, facilitates import and export of the auto components and cars globally. However, following the outbreak of the Coronavirus in China has crippled its industrial output, thereby leading to the suspension of its operations.

Hyundai has reportedly run out of wiring harnesses that connect the vehicles’ complex electronics. Therefore, the Hyundai has suspended its production at its factories across South Korea. Around 25,000 employees are now on leave following the suspension of work at the Hyundai facilities.

After Hyundai, Kia is likely to suspend three units for a day on February 11.
