University Students Union calls for class boycott over Citizenship (Amendment) Bill

Guwahati, January 8, 2019:

Students of Cotton College have decided to boycott classes because of the threat to ‘jati’, ‘mati’ and ‘bheti’ due to the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.

All the colleges from Sadiya to Dhubri have been requested by the student body to suspend classes. Pranjal Kalita, General Secretary of the Cotton University Students Union has condemned the BJP government’s intention to erode the identity of Assam by implementing the Bill.

General Secretary Kalita has released a statement publicly opposing the CAB-18, which stands against the interest of every Assamese and their existence.

He announced that the students of Cotton College have decided to abstain from class for an indefinite period. The Cotton College Students Union are expecting the students from the colleges of Assam to join them in their protest.
