Thiruvanathapuram, April 4, 2020:
An elderly couple from Kerala has recovered completely from COVID-19 after being hospitalized with the novel coronavirus, offering a rare glimmer of hope as India's COVID-19 cases continue to soar.
At a time when the pandemic has taken a toll on the whole world, this couple has become the country's oldest COVID-19 survivors. The 93-year-old and 88-year-old were discharged on Friday after they recovered from the virus, thereby offering a moment of pride for Kerala.
According to reports, the couple hailing from Ranni in Pathanamthitta district in Kerala completely recovered from the infection, after remaining critical for many days.They were infected through primary contact from their son, daughter-in-law and grandson who returned from Italy recently, all of whom tested positive for the disease.
The aged couple were under the treatment of Kottayam Medical College and Hospital. As per the health department, they were already suffering from various age-related diseases, and therefore, their condition was very critical in one phase of the treatment.

Along with the seven-member team of doctors who led the treatment of the elderly couple, 40 medical staff, including 25 nurses, actively took part in various stages of treatment.

She also said, "It is a huge achievement for the state especially when COVID19 patients above the age of 60 are considered in the high risk category across globe."
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also said that the recovery of the elderly couple from COVID-19 is a proud moment that has brought a lot of hope and confidence when many countries are still struggling to save the lives, especially of old-age individuals in whom the fatality rate of COVID-19 is higher.
Meanwhile, according to Worldometers, India has a total of 3,082 positive cases of COVID-19. 86 people have died due to the virus in the country. 23 fresh cases have been reported in the last 24 hours.
The virus has affected 1,118,055 people worldwide. 59,203 people have died across the world and so far, 229,151 people have recovered.
