AIZAWL: The COVID-19-induced total lockdown in Mizoram's in Aizwal Municipal Corporation (AMC) has been extended till July 31 in view of a surge in cases of the infection.

Meanwhile, some restrictions have been imposed in other parts of the state. The restrictions imposed earlier were scheduled to ease on July 24.

In an official statement, the Mizoram government said that despite strong steps made to prevent rising cases, the current COVID-19 positive cases rate is 'very high', therefore continue maintaining the current restrictions was felt necessary to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

The release further stated that the Deputy Commissioners may impose lockdown or other restrictions in other parts of the state depending on the pandemic status.
