Assam: Home isolated COVID-19 patients in Kamrup (M) dist to face legal action for violating norms

GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (Metro) District Disaster Management Authority has warned the COVID-19 patients allowed for home isolation facility of legal action if found violating any norm by the recently constituted home quarantine committees.

The statement signed by Biswajit Pegu, deputy commissioner of Kamrup (M), stated that home quarantine committees are constituted in Kamrup Metropolitan district to monitor compliance of government directions for home quarantine norms by the COVID-19 positive patients allowed for the same facility.

The patients are bound to follow all COVID-19 home quarantine norms during the stipulated time, if found violating any, the committee will file complaints with the local police stations of and the concerned police stations are directed to convert such complaints into FIR and proceed for legal action against the offender.

Also, in case of government officials found violating the home quarantine norms, the home quarantine committee will intimate the district administration which will initiate departmental proceeding against such defaulters, a statement said.

Over the past 24 hours, Assam recorded 2,236 fresh cases of COVID-19, out of which Kamrup (M) alone registered 815 cases. Also out of 14 victims that succumbed to the virus, three are from Kamrup (M).

Kamrup (M) has been topping the chart since the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic hit the state following the assembly polls.
