COVID-19: Tripura receives 50,000 kits, Rapid Antigen Test to begin soon
In a significant development when Tripura has recorded a spike in COVID-19 cases, the state has received its first consignment of Rapid Antigen Test kits. The first installment of 50,000 kits has reached state on Saturday, a highly placed source in the state health and family welfare department said.
“We have received the first consignment of the kits. Altogether, 50,000 kits have reached Tripura on Saturday and soon the department will begin mass testing in the containment zones”, the source further added.
In his words, “This development will help the health professional to trace positive cases in less time which will enhance the capability of the department to reach out to the infected patients in record time”.
An expert on the field of virology now posted at Agartala Government Medical College said, “This is a point of care testing model already used in many other states of Tripura. It’s a tested formula of curbing the widening graph in big city-based slums where the disease once posed serious problems”.
He said, this model of testing would be manly employed at the containment zones where rate of case increase is comparatively more. “Once a person is tested positive in the rapid antigen test he will be sent under treatment procedure but if the sample shows negative results, the swab samples will be brought to RT-PCR lab and the test will be conducted once again for confirmation”, the doctor said.
