IMPHAL: The Manipur government has opened a COVID hospital, exclusively for male patients, at Bal Bhawan complex here.
As many as 17 patients were admitted to the new 235-bedded hospital on the inaugural day.
The hospital was closed down in December last year after COVID-19 cases declined in the state.
In addition to this, another 200-bedded COVID hospital, exclusively for female patients, is likely to be opened soon at the National Sports University (NSU) office complex here.
The female COVID-19 patients are currently housed at the 64-bedded Covid Care Centre at the state family welfare complex.
Moreover, the Manipur government is planning to activate the 600-bedded Covid Care Centre at Lambui Khongnangkhong in Imphal West district, which was closed following a decline in COVID-19 cases in the state.
The opening of the new COVID hospitals comes amid the surge in COVID-19 positive cases in the state.
Manipur recorded a total of 254 fresh COVID-19 cases and five more deaths related to complications from the disease, yesterday.
Meanwhile, the state government has placed an order for three lakh vaccines to the Serum Institute of India in order to vaccinate people in the age group of 18-44 years.
