COVID vaccination for all above-45 people gets under way today

NEW DELHI: The COVID-19 vaccination for everyone aged above 45 years irrespective of comorbidity has opened this morning.

People have been advised to get vaccinated by experts. Dr V K Paul, a member of the NITI Aayog and the chairman of the national COVID-19 task force, has urged people over the age of 45 to get vaccinated without delay.

The Centre has directed the states and union territories to keep vaccine waste to less than 1%.

States have also been advised to use available vaccine stocks as soon as possible to prevent vaccine expiration.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan held a COVID-19 vaccination drive and arrangements review meeting with all States and Union Territories yesterday.

The meeting focused on identifying low vaccine coverage pockets, particularly in districts experiencing a COVID epidemic, and taking corrective action in those areas.
