AGARTALA: The opposition CPI(M) in Tripura has written a letter to the state election commissioner (SEC) ML Dey apprising him about the violation of model code of conduct (MCC) by the government of Tripura and requested to intervene to stop the mad drive of draining out of public money by chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

The letter which was written by the CPI(M) state secretary Gautam Das speaks about a complaint by CPI(M) state committee on March 8 regarding congregating tribal people by the government from various parts of Tripura at Swami Vivekananda Ground here on the occasion of third anniversary of the BJP-IPFT government in the state when the model code of conduct for Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election was already enforced by the SEC.

“We are yet to know, whether you had given cognizance to our complaint and accordingly, sought clarification from competent authority about our complaint. The media report shows that Sailesh Yadav, district magistrate of West Tripura district approved a bill amounting Rs 77,49,000 for the expenditure incurred only in Vivekananda ground. There might be another bill for hiring vehicles that may not be less than a crore of rupees in a conservative assessment.

"It is really unfortunate that being head of the election organisation you underplayed such a serious and gross violation of MCC where crores of rupees from government exchequers have been drained away for building up the electoral prospect of the ruling party,” the letter reads.

Referring to a piece of news published in a local English daily about a tender bid called by the directorate of economic and statistics in the name of ‘Tripura Citizen Mood Survey’, aimed at building up the personal charisma of chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Das said: “At the moment, the state is facing tremendous financial constraint as reflected in the recent state budget with the huge deficit, the Chief Minister has no right to spend such huge public money on cosmetic agenda to build up his personal image. In the midst of the TTAADC poll, we think you have the jurisdiction to intervene in this mad drive of draining out of public money by the Chief Minister and expect you would act upon,” the letter said.
