Daredevil Everesteer Taka Tamut Lauded for Helping in AN 32 Rescue Mission

Itanagar, July 2, 2019:

When Taka Tamut (27), a mountaineer from Arunachal Pradesh who scaled Mt Everest last year, heard that an An-32 aircraft of the Indian Air Force had gone missing in a remote mountainous region in Arunachal earlier this month, he instantly decided to help as he could feel the pain of the families of the air warriors.

This concerned daredevil drove from the state capital Itanagar in haste to join the search operation for the wreckage in Pari Adi mountains.

Tamut, who comes from Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang district along with his friend decided to help and has revealed that he bore the prices of all the gears and equipment which includes ropes, tents, shoes, rain coats etc.

He was one among the 15-member rescue team which was left stranded following bad weather at the site where the aircraft had crashed on June 3.

The AN-32, which took off from the Air Force Station in Assam’s Jorhat on June 3 at aroung 12:30 pm, never landed on its destination.

On June 11, the IAF said that the wreckage was spotted 16 km north of Lipo, at an approximate elevation of 12,000 ft, by an IAF helicopter.

They also surveyed the locals residing around the area and found out that the locals had witnessed an aircraft which seemed to be out of control, and they also said that they had heard a massive bomb type of sound, but could not understand which direction it had come from.

On June 20, IAF announced that the bodies of all 13 personnel were recovered. On the first trip they could take only some of the mortal remains of the warriors, so the remaining mortal remains were taken the next day, along with some members of the search operation team. Tamut was one of the person who remained back, and nine days after the recovery, they were airlifted.

Tamut stated, he nor the IAFs were ready for this and considers it to be one of his toughest journeys, but says it was worth it. He also added, “There was a burning smell everywhere; everything was charred.”

Hats off to this brave daredevil who risked his own life out of concern for his fellow humans.
