Daya Hang Rai Starer Nepali film 'Appa' to Release Across India.

Guwahati, June 26, 2019:

'Appa', a Nepali-language film written and directed by Anmol Gurung and produced by Ruden Sada Lepcha both from Kalimpong of Darjeeling Hills will be released across 25 cities and towns in India including Guwahati, Shillong, Tezpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Dimapur, Byrnihat and Golaghat.

For the first time in the history of Nepali cinema industry, a Nepali language movie with English subtitles is to be released in the theatres in Assam and also rest of India.

The main character is being portrayed by most watched superstar Daya Hang Rai who has changed Nepali cinema’s dimensions in international circuit and the popular actor and filmmaker Aruna Karki alongside Siddhant Raj Tamang and Allona Kabo Lepcha local talents from Darjeeling Hills.

Addressing a promotional event in Guwahati, Gurung said, “The idea behind the film is to change the way the society looks at a father-son relationship.”

He further added that it has been shot in historic Ghoom Railway Station in Darjeeling, while portions of the movie were shots in places like Sandakphu and Kalimpong. Mostly the movie is shot in "Queen of Hills - Darjeeling" and North Bengal at the backdrop of a Gorkha family.

Meanwhile, Daya Hang Rai, said that he is officially acting in India for the first time and that the storyline of the film compelled him to sign it.

The subject is universal and people from all across the world can get connected to it,” the Nepalese superstar actor said.

'Appa' film distribution Co-ordinator, Biraj Dhital Sarma said that this initiative is ours is maiden attempt to explore existing Nepali language movie market in Assam and North East which almost has more than 30 Lakhs population and give them big screen experience. Successful screening of this movie will encourage us to screen best of the best movies from Darjeeling Sikkim and Nepal here in Assam and NE and also screen popular movies of Assam with subtitles or dubbed in those places and exchange art and creativity.

“We have already seen and heard fusion music from both sides and it's so appealing. It will empower regional cinema in a big way but would need support from friends from the media and also from the film critics and reviewers for movie selection. It needs to be mentioned here Gold and Carnival Cinema have agreed to screen it via UFO across all places where the movie can be demanded so movie lovers can explore options to get it screened in their nearest cinema,” he added speaking about Appa.

The Community Reception & Interaction at Moni Kumar Subba Bhawan was well attended, most civil society organizations leaders felicitated Dayahang while fans cheered for him during dialogue delivery. Anmol an accomplished singer himself sank lips for Saanjh Parey Pachi number from the movie while the youths present out sang him.
