Guwahati, March 9, 2020:

Responding to Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi's appeal to unify all forces against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, All Assam Students' Union leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi has said that it will be possible only after "discussions" between the different organizations leading protests, following which a decision will be taken.

Talking to Inside Northeast,  Gogoi, "There have been appeals to unite the forces against the CAA. However, there have to be discussions first; there have been discussions, and a decision will be taken soon. First, all the leaders have to be consulted, thus, this decision does not only hinge on me alone..."

Gogoi also opined that Akhil should be released. "Not only Gogoi, but all the KMSS leaders must be realeased", he said.

It may be recalled that Akhil, in a recent penned from behind bars, said, "“Before writing my words, I want you express my thanks and gratitude. This thanks and gratitude is for the andolan you carried out while we (KMSS leaders) were jailed in prison” Gogoi further wrote, commending the people of the State. Gogoi also thanked several organizations such as the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Asom Jatiyabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP), etc."

Gogoi also wrote that that even if a collaboration between the two organizations is not possible, the AASU must form an indigenous forum and amp up the revolution against the CAA until it is scrapped by the BJP-led Government.

It may be mentioned here that Akhil was arrested by Assam Police on December 12 in the wake of the protests against the impending Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. A suo moto case was registered against him at Chandmari Police Station on the next day and on the very next day, the case was transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) who booked him under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
