Delhi govt files FIR against 4 airlines for not checking RT-PCR reports of passengers

NEW DELHI: Four airlines have been charged with failing to check the RT-PCR test reports of passengers arriving from Maharashtra.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led government has issued an order to lodge an FIR against Indigo, Vistara, SpiceJet, and Air Asia.

These cases have been filed by the Delhi government under the disaster management Act 2005.

The Delhi government last week announced that anyone travelling to Delhi from Maharashtra will be required to bring a negative RT-PCR report dated 72 hours prior to arrival. Travellers who do not have a negative report will be quarantined for 14 days, according to the announcement.

The precautionary measures will be in effect until April 30.

The decision was made in response to an increasing trend in COVID-19 cases in the city.

According to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, over 25,000 people in Delhi have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The national capital had 24,375 new cases as of Saturday.

Chief minister Kejriwal today stated that the COVID-19 situation in the national capital is rapidly deteriorating.

Moreover, the chief minister said that less than 100 ICU beds are left in Delhi hospitals and the condition is getting worse by the day.

He said he also spoke with Union home minister Amit Shah this morning and emphasised the need for more beds.
