Delhi markets to open on odd-even basis from Monday

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced that Delhi Metro will run at 50 per cent capacity and markets and malls in the national capital will open on an odd-even basis from June 7.

He also stated that the Delhi government will establish two genome sequencing labs at the LNJP Hospital and the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in order to identify the coronavirus variation that caused the city's outbreak.

The Delhi lockdown which was supposed to end at 5 a.m. on Monday will be extended further but Kejriwal said at an online conference that several relaxations will be made.

With 50 per cent attendance, government and private offices will be allowed to reopen. From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., markets and malls will be allowed to open on an odd-even basis, he added.

The Delhi government administration is preparing for the third wave of COVID-19, estimating that 37,000 daily cases will be reported at its peak and making plans for beds, ICUs and medication.

According to Kejriwal, a paediatric task force has been formed to determine the number of beds, ICU facilities and other equipment required for children who are expected to be affected by the third wave.
