DHUBRI: The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge at Dhubri on Wednesday evening granted bail to all the twenty-four persons arrested on September 21 this year in the alleged Land Broker case.

The Dhubri Police arrested 24 alleged land brokers, middlemen, and lat Mandal on September 20, 21 during multiple raids conducted across the district, for allegedly operating in the Revenue Circles offices, "hampering the delivery of Public services".

The arrests were made all over Dhubri district based on an FIR by an Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri on September 20.

The FIR against these alleged 'middlemen' said, "In order to strengthen the Revenue administration in the State of Assam, the Government had taken several initiatives. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has strictly warned against any sort of irregularities and corrupt practices in the Revenue Circles".

The FIR which was registered as Dhubri PS Case No:1512/2021, under section120 (b)/420/409/467/468/471 of IPC further states that regular complaints, media reports have been received from time to time, regarding malpractices in the Revenue Circle offices.

Several middlemen and unauthorised intermediaries operate in the Circle Offices, demanding bribes from the innocent public in order to deliver services and to unduly influence public servants through personal influence.

It may be mention that a similar case was registered in various districts of the state, and the accused were released on bail in many of the districts, but a bail petition for these accused before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate was rejected on September 30.

Later that day, Biprajit Roy, Additional District and  Sessions Judge accepted a bail petition for these alleged land brokers under section 439 of the Cr. P. C.
