BUENOS AIRES: Argentina soccer legend Diego Maradona died of a heart attack on Wednesday, his lawyer said. Maradona was the Captain when Argentina won the World Cup in 1986.

Maradona, 60, had recently battled health issues and underwent emergency surgery for a subdural haematoma several weeks ago.

Soccer great Diego Maradona was released from hospital on 12 November and taken to a recovery clinic where he could be treated for alcohol dependency, his doctor told reporters.

The former Napoli and Boca Juniors player had emergency surgery eight days ago for a subdural haematoma, a blood clot on the brain.

Maradona was kept in for longer than expected due to withdrawal symptoms caused by his sudden abstention from alcohol.

His physician told reporters the 60-year-old coach of Gimnasia y Esgrima finally left hospital on Wednesday evening in an ambulance accompanied by family members.

He was headed to a rehabilitation facility in the north of Buenos Aires and will spend time there recovering from his alcohol problems. He underwent an operation on 3rd November and was discharged on 12th November.
