Dima Hasao Journalists Union cites growing attack on Journalists to CM Sonowal

Dima Hasao, May 2, 2019:

The Dima Hasao Journalists Union (DHJU), Haflong has submitted a Memorandum to ' Sorbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister of Assam through Deputy Commissioner Dima Hasao district Amitabh Rajkhowa citing growing attacks on Journalists in Assam and elsewhere.

The memo was submitted as part of a protest and for action along with rest of the districts in Assam. During the submission, the members present also discussed various issues to protect freedom of the press and to preserve and uphold the fourth pillar of democracy apart from local issues faced by the Journalists working in the District.

The Deputy Commissioner, Amitabh Rajkhowa speaking to the members present showed serious concern over the incident assured all cooperation, safety to the Journalists and urged to inform any incident to the district administration and Superintendent of police.

On the day, Surja Thaosen, President, Nirmal Singh, General Secretary, Sukhen Phonglo, Vice president, Suraj Barman, Office Secretary, Pankaj Timung and Biswajit Haflongbar were present.
