HAFLONG: In yet another major twist ahead of the ensuing elections in Assam, Congress' Daniel Langthasa, a youth icon in the Dima Hasao district, has said that he will resign from the party tomorrow following which he will embak on a "new chapter."

According to sources, Langthasa has threatened to resign as his demand of being chosen as MLA candidate from the Constituency.

"I am officially resigning from Indian National Congress tomorrow. A new chapter begins! Keep me in your prayers," Langthasa wrote on a Facebook post.

"He is apparently peeved due to internal conflict with the party over some demands and hence, his post declaring an impending resignation is being seen as a threat. Langthasa will further clarify the matter during a Facebook live session later in the evening. However, Congress sources have said that all will be sorted out," said the source.

Langthasa's "resignation" has come at a time when the Congress is bolstering itself in the hill district by aligning with the Dima Hasao District Congress Committee and Autonomous State Demand Committee(ASDC).

"The deliberate attempt of the BP to dilute the provisions of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India by the implementation of Gaon Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) and the abolition of Hills Areas Department (HAD) despite strong protest from the stakeholders speaks volumes on the nefarious design of the incumbent government towards the Hills Tribes. These are some of the glaring examples of the BJP weakening the 6th Schedule Provisions," it was stated in a release.

"Indian National Congress (INC), Dima Hasao District Congress Committee and Autonomous State Demand Committee(ASDC), Dima Hasao District Committee also reiterate to work for the implementation of Article 244(A) i.e Autonomous State(a state within State of Assam provision) which is a long pending demand of the Hills People of Assam and appeals to all the citizens of Dima Hasao to support the INC Candidate in 16-Haflong(ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency," the release further added.
