Organized by the All Apex Bodies’ Coordination Committee, the rally was taken out as a peaceful protest against the demand of non-Dimasas to form a separate district without the Dimasas, claiming that they have been deprived of their rights in the existing scenario.

Frezer Sengyung said, “Today we held a peace rally. It is not intended to hurt anybody’s sentiment. We want to send out the message to the governments of Assam and India that the participants are peace lovers but this peace should not be at the cost of communal lines.”

“We need peace in Dima Hasao at any cost. We will not tolerate any organisation who tries to affect the peaceful atmosphere of Dima Hasao. We are appealing again to the Government to take strict action against the ones who indulge in violence. At the same time, we demand investigation and arrest of all the culprits involved in the 11th Feb incident,” reiterated Dimasa Students’ Union’s Pramit Senyung.

It may be mentioned here that on February 11 the Indigenous People’s Forum (IPF) had called for an “indefinite bandh” demanding the bifurcation of Dima Hasao. Massive clashes erupted across the district following the bandh when supporters as well as agitators started pelting stones at each other.
