DIMAPUR: The hospitals in Nagaland's Dimapur district are facing an oxygen crisis with the surge in COVID-19 cases across the Northeastern region of India.

Nodal officer for Covid-related activities in Dimapur Y Kikheto Sema disclosed that Dimapur had accounted for 61 per cent of COVID-19 cases in Nagaland yesterday.

"We need to prepare for the worst," said Sema in a state-issued DIPR report.

As per reports, the situation in Dimapur is so grim that Sema had to reach the private hospitals of Dimapur in search of more beds for COVID patients.

But no hospital wants to admit more COVID patients as there is a scarcity of medical oxygen as well as space.

In the released statement, Sema had expressed that the need for beds and oxygens in Dimapur is very urgent as both Government and private hospitals are running out of the same.

The state government held a COVID-19 war room review meeting yesterday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary J Alam, who urged the public not to panic and stay safe following all COVID-19 appropriate behavior.

The meeting also discussed on Oxygen availability and augmentation, bed availability, status of installation of PSA oxygen plants in various district hospitals.

State health minister S Pangnyum Phom informed that the work for the third plant of O2 concentrator at Mkg DH is under process and the department has sent for certification to Delhi for Dimapur.
