Dimapur Municipal Council warns traders against hoarding, price rise

DIMAPUR: After the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI), the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has also issued a warning to the traders in Nagaland’s commercial town against unauthorised hoarding and price rise taking advantage of the impending COVID situation.

The DMC has warned the traders not to indulge in any kind of unfair and unethical practice such as hoarding or unauthorised increase of prices of various commodities taking undue advantage of the COVID-19 situation in the state.

The DMC has also released three phone numbers – 9862929908, 6009533234, 7005697120 – for the public to lodge complaints if any unscrupulous trader is found guilty in any count.

Further the DMC has appealed to all to comply with the COVID-19 SOPs.

Earlier, the DCCI today warned all the shops and business establishments in the town not to indulge in hoardings taking advantage of the pandemic situation.

DCCI president Akashe Zhimomi and grievances cell convener Omega Yepthomi, in a release, said any shop or establishment found indulging in hoarding will be sealed and their goods will be handed over to the district administration for free distribution.

The DCCI said it will monitor the market round the clock with the help of the administration and the DMC and take direct complaints from the public. It assured the public that there was sufficient stock of all commodities and that they need not worry about shortages.

It said there are reports about price rise in certain essential commodities like mustard oil, other cooking oil and pulses and hardware items like MS rod and cement all over India in the last few weeks. It warned the traders not to hoard and hike the rates of these products in particular.

The DCCI said all shops must ensure social distancing, insist on wearing masks by both customers and shopkeepers and provide hand sanitisers in their respective shops.
