DNLA violence: Survivor narrates incident that left five killed

Faruk Hussain, a survivor of the gruesome attack carried out by suspected Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) in Dima Hasao district of Assam, gives a first-hand account of the violence.

GUWAHATI: Faruk Hussain, a survivor of the gruesome attack carried out by suspected Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) in Dima Hasao district of Assam, gives a first-hand account of the violence.

Talking to reporters he said, “We were coming from Umrangsu towards Dayangmukh.. Upon reaching Diyunbra we saw four vehicles parked on the way. Seven- eight people were standing beside the road. They signaled us to stop. When we slowed down and took the vehicles on the side of the road, they started firing at us.”

Faruk Hussain, who hails from Hojai district has got a bullet Injury in his leg. He somehow saved his life by jumping out of the vehicle and running towards the jungle on the side of the road.

“Before we could stop the vehicles properly, they already fired two rounds of bullet. One of it hit my leg. I jumped out of the vehicle from the left door and ran towards the jungle. I hid inside a sewage  and from there I saw one men was setting the vehicles on fire while others kept on firing indiscriminately.”

After the militants left, Faruk slowly came out of the jungle and started walking towards Dayangmukh.

“I had one more person with me. I could not see whether he could escape or not.”

DNLA miscreants set seven trucks on fire and indiscriminate shooting left five persons died.

It is suspected that the militants carried out the violence because of not getting random from cement manufacturing companies.

The  Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) announced its formation on April 15, 2019. The group has claimed that it would fight for the liberation of a soverign, independent Dimasa Nation out of Assam.
