DoNER Ministry to identify underdeveloped districts in Northeast

NEW DELHI: Dr. Jitendra Singh, Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister stated that the Ministry will identify 10 districts in all the eight states in the Northeastern region that are lagging behind in terms of governance and development.

The Minister informed that the identification will be carried out within a week while chairing a high-level meeting with the official of the ministry on Wednesday.

As stated by the Minister, the focus will be to accelerate “Ease of Living” in these districts through smooth delivery of Goods and Services.

Singh further informed that the aim of this initiative is to focus on the identified districts and bring them to par with other developed districts in the region.

The minister further clarified that these 10 districts be different from the 14 aspirational districts of Northeast, chosen earlier based on 49 key indicators.

He also instructed the officials to make a comprehensive database of developmental projects in each of the eight States in the last seven years. The officials will be required to showcase the marked improvement in all the sectors in comparison to the earlier 63 years in the report, added the Minister.

He stressed that the Prime Minister’s flagship projects and all the foundation laying ceremonies of Narendra Modi in all the eight States must be reflected in the Developmental Database.

He also referred to the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Package announced on 12th October 2020, where a special interest-free 5- year loan was announced for all states under Capital Expenditure boost for states packages.
