Assam reported a total of 1202 Corona virus cases on July 4th, 2020 taking the state’s total to 11001. Out of the 1202 cases, 777 of these from Guwahati City alone. The state government has said to maintain “extra vigil” following the situation, especially for Guwahati. Following the detection, another 416 have been discharged. So far Assam has 11126 cases with 125 cases detected in Guwahati recently.

The recent spike of Corona virus cases has created concerns among the citizens of the state and to take stock of the situation, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma (HBS) addressed the media gathering. "If the lockdown would not have been announced, it would have created a big problem. So far, people have maintained the lockdown and police are on alert if needed", said HBS.

He then raised an important point about the misinformation campaign created by few to nullify Corona as a light disease with small cold and cough infections. To prove the severity of the issue, he himself visited the ICU of GMCH taking all precautions to show live coverage of the condition of patients inside the ICU.

In the video, he showed how the patients are undergoing treatment in the GMCH ICU with breathing apparatus and under complete supervision from the medical staff. He also showed the cleanliness of the hospital and praised the health care cleaners who have been tirelessly working. "People are criticising doctors without even going there. Please ask your soul before demotivating others to come forward for treatment. TV media channels who are resorting to TRP shouldn't resort to such practices because tomorrow they are also at risk to suffer from the corona virus".

The Health Minister clarified the reports about wrong positive and negative Corona cases. "Few data entry mistakes have happened out of more than 4 lakh test, which includes, 1 mistake in JMCH, 0 in SMCH, 3 in Dibrugarh, 1 in Tezpur, 0 in Barpeta, 3 in RMRC Lahaul, 3 in DMCH - 3 and 14 in GMCH. This is a very minimal error which is bound to happen. But, there has been a malicious campaign against the govt and as such people are scared to test and come to GMCH". He has also warned that "more severe days might come in the future".
