DOOARS: A running train screeched to a halt near the Dooars area in North Bengal as the drivers noticed a big elephant on the track yesterday.

Driver R. Kumar and his assistant G K Das let the elephant cross the railway track and save the elephant.

The elephant was less than a kilometre away from the train (no-07541) when the driver saw it crossing the tracks and hit the brakes. This amusing video was shared on Twitter by the Northeast Frontier Railway and has racked up an impressive amount of likes and shares on the microblogging platform.

“Loco Pilot R. Kumar and Asst Loco Pilot G K DAS noticed one big elephant on the railway track @RailMinIndia at about 6:20 hrs yesterday at km 70/0-4 while passing with train no-07541in Dooars area of North Bengal. They stopped the train and saved the elephant @wti_org_india ,” the tweet read.

There are several videos on the Internet that show people doing their part to protect animals' welfare. This video from NF Railway certainly falls into that category.

The train driver only resumed after the elephant had safely crossed over to the other side of the tracks.
