DIMAPUR: Efforts are on to douse the fire that has spread in the Dzoukou Valley at the Nagaland-Manipur border. Officials last night, however, confirmed that the fire has been brought "under control."

Sources informed us that efforts are still on to douse the raging wildfire, but the fire fighters have so far been successful in curbing it to a great extent. Strong winds and ambient dryness are said to be the factors behind the fire spreading fast.

Meanwhile, at least 100 Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) volunteers along with forest rangers have been stationed at strategic locations to monitor the fire.

The fire that has been raging in the the picturesque Dzukou Valley along the Nagaland-Manipur since Tuesday spread to Manipur yesterday.

Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh who made an aerial survey over Dzukou Valley on Thursday took to Twitter yesterday to inform that he is "sending more personnel to the spot and seeking help from concerned authorities to stop the spread of the fire and save the deep forest portion of the valley.”

The Manipur State Government has urged the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to provide assistance in fighting the fire in the picturesque valley.

Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force has engaged an Mi-17V5 helicopter to tame a massive wildfire in Dzukou Valley, a popular trekking destination on the Manipur-Nagaland border.

A spokesperson of the Shillong-headquartered Eastern Air Command said the helicopter was launched on the basis of a requisition by the Nagaland government.
