On Monday evening one full grown Elephant which was used for illegal timber operation in Assam-Arunachal border area of Tirap RF under Lekhapani forest range office of Digboi, Tinsukia District was seized by Forest department along with Mahout.

Margherita: On Monday evening one full grown Elephant which was used for illegal timber operation in Assam-Arunachal border area of Tirap RF under Lekhapani forest range office of Digboi, Tinsukia District was seized by Forest department along with Mahout.

According to sources illegal Timber Traders of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh use these Pachyderms to carry Mecai and other precious logs from Assam towards Jairampur, Miao and Nampong of Arunachal Pradesh which since many decades it has been continuously going on.

The sudden seizure of the elephant and mahout by the Forest Department has raised several questions as to why Forest Department had not taken appropriate step earlier for which millions of Precious trees were mercilessly chopped at the border area.

Both the Pachyderm and mahout will be produced in court hence enquiry is going on to arrest the other accomplices till filling of this report.
