AIZAWL: The BJP has suffered yet another major jolt in the Chakma Council as six out of the total eight members of district council (MDC) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tendered their resignations from the party and merged with the MIZO National Font (NMF) on March 27.

The six members are Buddhalila Chakma, Ajoy Kumar Chakma, Onish Moy Chakma, Anil Kanti Chakma, Hiranand Tongchangya and Sanjeev Chakma.

During an induction programme at MNF's party office in Kamalanagar, State Sports Minister Pu Robert Romawia Royte formally inducted the six members into the party.

Buddhalila Chakma, speaking to the media shortly after their joining the MNF and citing the reasons for the move, expressed regret for the Central BJP leaders' inability to fulfil any of the promises made to the people of CADC.

He also said that the majority of Mizoram people are opposed to the BJP's ideology, making the party's entry into the state a distant dream.

Despite the fact that Chakma Autonomous District Council is the BJP's only stronghold in Mizoram, the central leadership has paid no attention to the problems of BJP employees at the grassroots, he said.

Meanwhile, Rasik Mohan Chakma, the current Chief Executive Member of the Chakma Autonomous District Council, has voluntarily resigned from his role to allow for the creation of a new Executive Committee in the best interests of the people of CADC.

Later, at a meeting of the MNF Legislature Party, Rasik Mohan Chakma proposed Durjya Dhan Chakma, MDC as the legislature party's leader, which was seconded by Kali Kumar

Tongchangya, MDC,under whose leadership the new executive committee will be formed.

The incumbent chief minister Pu Zoramthanga's dynamic leadership has so far not disturbed the growth of any minority areas in the state, which is the primary explanation for the migration of voters from different political parties to the ruling MNF.
