JORHAT: Fake notes of Rs 2000 and Rs 500 denominations with a face value of over 1.16 crore have been recovered from Avadh-Assam Express by the Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel of Mariani in Assam.

The bag of the fake currency was recovered from the coach number in S-1 of the train by the Sub-Inspector/RPF/Mariani P.K. Bishnu and Bijoy Kumar Chanda during their duty hours.

 

According to the Northeast Railway Frontier (NFR), when the train arrived at Mariani at 11:30 am, the team of officials attended the train, removed the bag, and took it to the RPF post Mariani.

According to reports, the chain of the bag was opened in the presence of witnesses after all formalities were followed, and the bag was found to contain a large number of fake currency notes (FICN) wrapped in one blanket.

 

With the help of commercial workers, the currency notes were checked and counted, yielding 3860 numbers of Rs. 2000 denomination and 7946 numbers of Rs. 500 denomination, total Rs. 1,16,93,000.

The fake currency with the related paper was later handed over to GRP/Mariani for further legal action.
