DHUBRI: The Border Security Force (BSF) has apprehended a Bangladeshi national while he was crossing the international boundary while carrying fake Indian currency notes.

Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) face value of Rs 49,500/-.

The BSF troops arrested the fake note racketeer along with notes worth around Rs. 49,000 in a village near the Indo-Bangladesh border while he was trying to cross the border illegally.

The accused has been identified as Kalam Ali (27), a resident of Dhanirampur village in Kurigram district in Bangladesh.

Ali was entering India illegally by crossing the Gangadhar river with the fake currency notes to be smuggled from Bangladesh to India.

BSF troops of the border outpost (BOP) at Tistapara arrested him based on a tip-off as they had carried out a special operation in the general area of the village near the Indo-Bangladesh border on June 26 from the bordering area of Baladova village in Assam's Dhubri.

Keeping in view the vulnerability of the border, heightened activities of the smugglers, and anti-national elements on the border, BSF troops have to be alert about trans-border crimes and illegal infiltration.

The fake note racketeer along with the seized notes has been handed over to Dhubri Police for further legal action.
