NEW DELHI: The protesting farmers on Saturday announced to block the Delhi-Jaipur highway to intensify the ongoing protests at the Delhi borders.

With farmers gearing up to block the highway and toll plazas on the Delhi today in response to a call from protesting farmers union to intensify their agitation against the three farm laws passed by the government, police personnel have been deployed in order to protect the toll booths and to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

According to reports, as many as 3,500 police personnel will be deployed at the five toll plazas in the area.

A petition has been filed in the Supreme court on Friday by the Bharatiya Kisan Union that sought repeal of the three "arbitrary" laws. The apex court has already issued notices to the centre on a batch of petitions challenging the laws.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday asked senior bank employees to focus on doubling farmers' income, reducing investment costs, providing proper market facilities for crops and supporting them at the time of natural disasters.

Reddy was addressing the 213th State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC), where he announced that a 7.5 per cent growth rate has been registered in the last quarter in issuing loans and 99 per cent of crop loans were disbursed.

Meanwhile, the ruling BJP has planned a massive campaign across the country, involving over 100 press conferences and 700 farmers’ meet in 700 districts, sources informed.

Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab and Haryana, are camping near the Delhi border for three weeks now. They say the new laws will leave them at the mercy of corporates even as the government, as assured repeatedly the legislations, bring much-needed reforms.
