Fight between BJP & BPF is like husband-wife quarrel, divorce is unlikely, says MP Naba Sarania

GUWAHATI: Ahead of polls in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls, Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP Naba Kumar Sarania today claimed that the war of words among the BJP, BPF, and UPPL parties is like a squabble between a man and his wife, going on to claim that a "divorce" is very unlikely to occur.

"The fights between the BJP, UPPL, and BPF are like quarrels between a man and his wife. It will never head to divorce as they have been together throughout. Himanta Biswa Sarma has been like the Chief Minister during the Tarun Gogoi and Sarbananda Sonowal regimes," Naba Sarania told mediapersons in Baksa district today.

The MP also alleged that Biswa Sarma's recent war of words with BPF supremo Hagrama Mohilary is because of their intent to take the limelight away from his own party and its core issues. "Himanta Biswa Sarma is trying to divert from the issues of the equal rights for the non-Bodos due to which the GSP has been formed. They are trying to take the limelight away from us. Whatever they are doing, they are doing with deep understanding, he said.

Sarania today launched a massive bike rally by GSP workers that will see them take their message to the different parts of the region. "Our long journey and struggle for rights has brought us to this stage. Therefore, I thank all who have made sacrifices. I hope we will be able to able to form the Government. Our success is crucial because a lot -- be it about right, development -- depends on it," Sarma said, flagging off the rally.

Naba Sarania further declared that "security" and "land rights", especially for the non-Bodo community, are the main issues of the GSP party. He further exuded hope that his party would be able to win the requisite number of seats to form the Government in the BTC if the same people who turned out to vote for him in the General Elections, once again vote for his party during the BTC polls.

It needs mention here that the Election Commission of Assam on Tuesday declared the dates of the upcoming polls in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) which were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Alok Kumar, the State Election Commissioner of Assam, today announced that the BTC election shall be held in two phases — on December 7 and 10.
