Guwahati, August 31, 2019:

Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev has termed the final National Register of Citizens (NRC), which was published earlier today, as ‘flawed’. He has also said that the NRC has fulfilled the agenda of AIUDF and AAMSU.

“AIUDF and AAMSU members are happy while Aabhijeet Sharma, the man who initiated the process of NRC, is in tears,” alleged Shiladitya. He added that Muslim Bangladeshis have been included while the genuine citizens who happened to be Hindus have been excluded.

Dev, who had been reiterating his doubts on the whole process of NRC and State Coordinator, Prateek Hajela, said, “I have been saying this for the past three years that we will not get a fair NRC. I have also cited many factors to support my concern.”

He added that NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela led the ‘one-man show’ without giving a clue about its progress to anyone and the final version of the NRC is corrupt in nature. The BJP MLA further went on to say that the NRC has served "Hajela’s purpose."

“At least 1 crore Bangladeshi Muslims should have been excluded from the NRC but instead, their names have been included,” he said.

Dev, who had been very critical of the NRC, has urged the government to further probe the matter. He alleged that due to lack of proper monitoring, at least 1 crore Bangladeshi Muslims have made their way to the final NRC.

Over 19 lakh people have been left out of the final NRC which was published earlier today, which includes people who have not submitted their claims.
